As of 5 pm last night, service had been restored, except to a limited number of customers directly near the affected area.

Regional West Medical Center was affected in many ways by yesterday’s panhandle-wide telephone/internet outage, the hospital and associated medical clinics remained functional and able to handle emergency situations. Regional West coordinated its response to the communication outage with city, county, and emergency services.

The Medical Center’s internal telephone, internet, and radio access was currently functioning, as was the internal fire alarm system; however, external communication had been spotty. The hospital’s satellite telephone was used to establish communication with critical access hospitals throughout western Nebraska.

During the outage, limited Air Link service was available. Control towers at Scottsbluff and Bridgeport remained functional.

Here in Torrington police were unable to do any out of town back round checks, credit card machines at retail stores were not functioning, Hospital, College and Banks were all affected.

This should make us wonder how dependant we have become to technology.  What happens when technology is out for a long period of time?  Will we have to resort in knowing math and counting back change or using a pen and paper to write things down?
