ONE WEEK LEFT OF REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING
With one week left in the regular season for high school wrestling, it is time to look at the regional tournaments. The regional tournaments will determine state qualifiers with the top eight in each weight advancing to the state tournament in Casper. Due to recent changes a school may qualify more thane one wrestler in a weight class.
The 3A East Tournament will be held in Newcastle this year on February 21st and 22nd. Wrestling for the Blazers and other seven teams in attendance will begin at noon on Friday and 10 A.M. Saturday.
Southeast High School in Yoder will host the 2A East schools on Friday, February 21st for the regional tournament. The six schools from the Northeast will join the five Southeast area schools for a one day tourney. Wrestling begins at 11 A.M. Friday with the consolation championships at approximately 5:30 P.M.read more
"COACH" VERL PETSCH TO RETIRE
"Coach" Verl Petsch has announced his retirement from Eastern Wyoming College at the end of this academic year. The long, time coach and athletic director has spent 43 years at EWC, coaching,teaching, and overseeing the college's athletic programs.
Coach developed the volleyball program in the 1970's and served as the head coach for 40 years. During that time he compiled 1085 wins to 699 losses and won six Region lX championships. The Lady Lancers went to the nation juco volleyball tournament seven times (once at-large bid) and had three fifth place finishes at nationals. They also placed eighth twice.
Over the 40 years, the volleyball program has had nineteen athletic All-American players and seventy-seven academic All-Americans with two possible this year.
Verl began the athletic director duties in the fall of 1979, giving him 34 years in that capacity. And five years during his tenure he helped establish and coach women's basketball at EWC. It is no surprise why the EWC board named the gymnasium area of the college the Verl Petch Jr. Activities Center.

GOSHEN COUNTY GIRLS BASKETBALL
The three Goshen County Girls Basketball teams have posted a combined 21-5 record during this 2013-14 season. The 1A Lady Doggers lead the way with a 9-0 record going into the sixth week of the season. The Lingle- Ft. Laramie girls won the 1A Regional Championship last year and finished second at the state tournament to Cokeville.
Southeast Lady Cyclones have a 6-2 record after finishing third in the 2A East Regional and third at the state tournament last season. The Lady Cyclones and Lady Doggers will meet this Friday, January 17th at Eastern Wyoming College for their first of two games this season.
The Torrington Lady Blazers are at 6-3 on the season with two of those losses coming early in the season to very good Nebraska teams. The lady Blazers did not qualify for the state tournament last year; however during the 2011-12 campaign; they finished third at the 3A East Regional and the State Tournament.

LINGLE-FT. LARMIE LADY DOGGERS HEADED TO CASPER THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31ST TO PLAY THEIR FIRST ROUND OF 1A STATE VOLLEYBALL AGAINST BURLINGTON. THE LADY DOGGERS WON THEIR FIRST MATCH WITH A 3-1 WIN OVER BURLINGTON. THEY WENT INTO FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST, VS. LITTLE SNAKE RIVER WHERE THEY SWEPT THE COURT TO WIN THE MATCH 3-0.
ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND, THE LADY DOGGERS FACED OFF AGAINST COKEVILLE IN THE 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH. THIS WAS A FAMILIAR SPOT FOR THESE GIRL'S AS THEY HAD PLAYED IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN THE 2012 STATE TOURNAMENT. THE LADY DOGGERS FOUGHT THEIR HEARTS OUT AS THEY WENT HEAD TO HEAD WITH CLOSE GAMES AGAINST COKEVILLE. UNFORTUNATLEY THE DOGGERS FELL IN THE 5TH GAME LOSING 15 TO 9. COKEVILLE TOOK THE MATCH 3-2 OVER THE LINGLE-FT. LARAMIE LADY DOGGERS.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LADY DOGGERS ON THEIR EXCELLENT SEASON AND TAKING 2ND PLACE IN 1A STATE VOLLEYBALL! THIS IS THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEARSON WITH A SECOND PLACE STANDING AT STATE. ALL CONFERENCE AND ALL-STATE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS TO BE ANNOUNCED LATER IN THE WEEK.read more
